Azmi brings over two decades of experience in building code compliance, zoning regulations, and architectural practice. She partners with clients to navigate the complexities of regulatory processes, manage complex Building Code and Zoning reviews, accelerate project approvals, and deliver successful project outcomes.
Previously, Azmi served as a Principal at Capalino and held senior leadership roles at the NYC Department of Buildings (DOB), including Deputy Borough Commissioner and Code & Zoning Specialist. At the DOB, she oversaw Building Code and Zoning reviews and assisted in resolving time-sensitive matters involving applications, audits, permits, inspections, and Certificates of Occupancy.
Her career began in architecture, where she practiced both independently and with private firms, focusing on design, feasibility studies, zoning assessments, project management, and construction administration. This dual perspective, as both regulator and practitioner, offers her clients a unique and comprehensive advantage. She combines technical expertise with a solutions-driven approach to help projects advance efficiently and with minimal disruption.
Azmi holds a B.Arch. and M.Arch., and is an active member of the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards (NCARB) and the International Code Council (ICC).
